Accessing Rangeland Knowledge with LandPKS: 3-Part Webinar Series
Online via Zoom
The Land Potential Knowledge System, or LandPKS, supports ranchers, rangeland managers, and other land managers with open-source tools that allow them to easily access knowledge and information, and to collect, share, and interpret their own soil, vegetation cover, and management data. This webinar series targets rangeland managers and others who are interested in learning how to use LandPKS, and in exploring the app’s new Habitat and Soil Health modules in a rangeland management context.
Each of these three, 45-minute webinars will focus on a different aspect of using LandPKS on rangelands: identifying land potential, understanding habitat, and monitoring soil health. You are welcome to attend one or all of the sessions; however, we recommend that new LandPKS users attend the first session.
Part 1: Learning about your Land and its Potential with LandPKS
Tuesday, March 2nd, 2021 at 1:00-1:45pm MST
First, this session will feature an overview of possibilities for using the LandPKS app to access rangeland knowledge, and of LandPKS as a tool for regenerative agriculture. You will learn how to use the app’s LandInfo (for soil identification and characterization, and ecological site identification) and LandCover (for vegetation monitoring) modules, essential building blocks for the following sessions.
Part 2: Monitoring Vegetation and Understanding Habitat with LandPKS
Tuesday, March 9th, 2021 at 1:00-1:45pm MST
The second webinar covers how to collect vegetation data and learn about habitat using the LandPKS mobile app. Participants will first learn how to use the LandCover module for vegetation monitoring, and then see how that data is integrated into the Habitat module* to help you determine if you are fostering the conditions preferred by key species on your land. Habitat information as well as vegetation and land cover data collected in the app can be used to develop goals, guide management actions, and develop monitoring plans.
*Currently includes select North American species.
Part 3: Monitoring Soil Health with LandPKS
Tuesday, March 16th, 2021 at 1:00-1:45pm MST
The LandPKS SoilHealth module is designed for data input and tracking of dynamic properties of soil that are important for productivity and sustainability. LandPKS has recently updated its SoilHealth module to be compatible with the NRCS cropland in-field soil health assessment. This session will show you how to make the most of LandPKS’s soil health tools on rangelands.
LandPKS is free to download for both iPhone/iPad and Android phones and tablets in the Apple App store/Google Play store.
These webinars will be recorded and shared with registered participants following the event. They will also be made available online on the LandPKS YouTube channel and website.
